Georgina Chapman finds herself "unleashing even more of that fantastical thinking" when designing when pregnant.
The British star and her friend Keren Craig are the brains behind the Marchesa label, which is renowned for its stunning red carpet dresses.
Georgina is expecting her second child with her husband Harvey Weinstein and last month attended the Oscars with him. She opted for an ivory empire-cut gown with a bodice embellished with pearl and metallic stones. Pregnancy has always made the star feel more creative.
"I?m quite pregnant at the moment, as you can tell in the photos! As such, I wanted something comfortable, soft and free-flowing, but still romantic and intricate. I created the gown relatively last minute, but I was very happy with it," she told houston.culturemap.com.
"I have felt an incredible rush of creativity during my pregnancy. It was the same for my first pregnancy, too. I am dramatic in my design approach to begin with, but when I?m pregnant, I tend to unleash even more of that fantastical thinking."
Although she's expanding her family, Georgina hasn't taken time off from work. She's created a lower-priced line which is available from US retailer J.C. Penney and has designed a range of bridal wear.
Georgina approaches creating such pieces in much the same way she does her other outfits.
"The design process remains the same for me, but I do certainly take the bride into consideration. I think about everything from structure, style and fabrics, to how the gown will look in photos and the style of wedding. The same Marchesa aesthetic always applies for our bridal collections: feminine touches, dramatic flair and attention to detail," she explained.
Although the designer knows many brides don't want to look too trendy on their special day for fear of looking dated in years to come, she insists there are ways to make the gowns look edgy.
"We do work with themes in our bridal collections, but they are subtle. We have in the past played with ideas of floral lace, romantic fairytales, and modern adaptations of historical references. We never design with trends in mind; I like to instead focus on inspiration, mood and the overall silhouette," she said. ? Cover Media
