AAA offers tips for traveling to Mexico

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- With spring break just around the corner, AAA Arizona is reminding travelers to stay safe if heading south of the border.

The auto club offers the following advice:

  • Use recommended border crossings. That means the Lukeville crossing if you're heading to Rocky Point.
  • Carry a passport. Citizens are required to have a passport to get back into the United States.
  • Travel smart. Stay with your party at all times.
  • Know the laws and who to call if you need help. Always travel with a cell phone and save important contact numbers.
  • Be insured. U.S. auto insurance is not valid in Mexico. AAA says you should consider buying a short-term Mexican insurance policy or trip insurance.
