The Power of Sunlight: Why Your House Should Have Solar Roofing

Solar energy comes from gathering sunlight and changing it into electrical power. Industries that utilize large volumes of electrical power have actually relied on solar energy to lessen expenditures. Nonetheless, home owners may additionally harness solar energy in their houses through solar panels or roofs.

Not long ago, a solar roof had not been really a popular choice. In the 1970s, to have a solar roof indicated mounting panels as big as ping pong tables on the top of your house. Although it is highly cost-efficient, this sort of roof doesn't at all score high in appearances. Racks on your roof are rather heavy, not to mention a blemish on the surroundings for neighbors who would like to preserve a charming community.

Thankfully, in the past years, the roofing sector has successfully created architecturally agreeable solar-powered shingles that amalgamate effortlessly with conventional roofing materials. This system is called BIPVs (building-integrated photovoltaics) which merge solar cells with products like slate, steel, asphalt and fiber-cement. Thus, electrical power is generated when the sun touches a semiconductor layer coated to the shingle's surface.

One shingle produces approximately 50 to 200 watts, which is sufficient to power a window electric fan. Nevertheless, utilizing hundreds of square feet of these shingles is quite enough to power a whole home. Now going solar does not imply cutting ties with your regional energy company; BIPVs cooperate with established power lines which get electricity from the lines following sundown or on stormy days.

Central Florida, a region in the U.S. state of Florida, is home to Orlando, the county governing center of Orange County and the heart of the Greater Orlando Metropolitan Area. Being near the coast, the city is subject to hurricanes, rainfall and humidity. Central Florida roofing business offer the kind of roof covering appropriate to the state's terrestrial area. They also encourage solar roofs for homeowners thinking about developing lasting green residences.

Not only residents of a sunlit state like Florida can easily benefit from having a solar roof, but even those from states such as Washington or Wisconsin that have fewer sunny days. There are also solar attic fans and solar water heating systems that you could get to optimize the advantages of your solar roof. Orlando roofers can properly design and set up your solar roof and home owners can get a kick out of other advantages like government and state tax incentives and lower utility bills.

Aside from solar roofing, residents can easily get the metal roofing Orlando roofing contractors suggest. Steel has a highly reflective exterior that wards off damaging UV rays away from the residence, keeping the home well-ventilated particularly throughout sweltering seasons. Picking Out What Kind Of Wedding Invitations To Use ...

A wedding ceremony should be an occasion for joy for all involved. The tips featured below will help you to organize a wonderful wedding that you and all your guests will remember forever.

Dress shopping for a wedding is fun, but make sure that you select one that does look great on you, not one that only looks good on the rack. A dress that flatters you should be the focus of your shopping. For example, if you're not very tall, then shop in the store's petite section instead of altering a dress that's normal length. The petite dress will look better; you will be really glad you made the decision!

One way to look gorgeous on your wedding day without going over-budget is to rent your diamond jewelry! This will allow you to work your aesthetic to your tastes without the hefty price tag.

Don't use a ton of flowers on the tables that guests will be sitting at during your wedding reception. In many cases, it will just prevent guests from talking to each other. Additionally, many people are allergic to flowers. Consider placing non scented candles on the table for a romantic look.

You should put a great deal of thought into writing your wedding vows. Your vows are a reflection of the strength of your commitment to your partner. Concentrate on the sacrifices you are happy to make for the sake of the marriage when writing your vows. Write your vows so that they express your love for your spouse and remind you of why you love them.

To help you plan your wedding and make it easier on you, consider hiring a wedding consultant. Planning a wedding can make you feel very stressed, since there are so many things that can go awry. A professional is best equipped to see to all the details and to resolve any unexpected dilemmas. You and members of your family should have a chance to take it easy and enjoy the wedding ceremony and reception.

Once you have the design of your wedding in mind, record it on paper and then start shopping around for services that specialize in that kind of design. The different design services that offer what you are looking for can be selected according to price and the actual service they provide.

Centerpieces can quickly cause your reception to be a dud financially and socially. Instead of buying a centerpiece that is so big it covers the whole table, use something simple. This will make it easier for the people at the table to hold a conversation with each other.

Weddings tend to be stressful, that is why it is advisable to plan to start the wedding at a later time. Set aside time to complete all the necessary tasks without looking exhausted at the event. To ensure that you look your best for your special day, rest as much as possible.

Remember that the reason for a wedding is marriage, not an excuse to throw the perfect party. You have a whole lifetime to spend with your partner. Start it off right by planning your wedding in advance so that your wedding day is everything you dreamed of.

Clinton hopes for improved drones to find Kony

ENTEBBE, Uganda (AP) ? U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she hopes drones will soon be able to see through jungle cover so they can locate warlord Joseph Kony.

Clinton made the remark in Uganda as she watched a small U.S.-made drone that the Ugandan military uses in Somalia to fight al-Qaida-linked militants.

The U.S. last year sent 100 special forces advisers to Central Africa to help hunt Kony, the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army, a band of jungle-roaming militants known for kidnapping children, taking girls as sex slaves and disfiguring victims. Ugandan forces are at the forefront in the hunt for Kony, whose campaign of terror originated in Uganda but who is now elsewhere in central Africa.

"Now we have to figure out how we can see through thick vegetation to find Joseph Kony," Clinton said at a Ugandan military base on Lake Victoria shortly after meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

Kony's terror rampage was made famous earlier this year by a viral Internet campaign by the U.S.-based aid group Invisible Children. The U.S. troops helping in the hunt are in Uganda, Central African Republic, South Sudan and Congo.

"We have to figure out how to work with all the countries where he and his criminal bands are perhaps hiding. We have to put our heads together to find out what additional equipment and support you need to lead this effort to rid the world of this terrible man and his criminal behavior," Clinton said.

Earlier in the day, Clinton urged leaders of South Sudan and their counterparts in the north to quickly reach agreements on oil revenue and other pressing issues to resolve festering differences that threaten to re-ignite a decades-long conflict.

Clinton flew to South Sudan's capital of Juba for a brief visit to offer U.S. support but more importantly to stress the urgency of ending disputes with Sudan over oil and territory. Those disputes have led to clashes between the two countries which many fear could crater the 2005 peace deal that ended what was then Africa's longest-running civil war.

"While South Sudan and Sudan have become separate states, their fortunes and their futures remain inextricably linked," Clinton said at a news conference. "Now it is urgent that both sides, north and south, follow through and reach timely agreements on all outstanding issues. The people of South Sudan expect it."

The two sides had faced a Thursday U.N. Security Council deadline to reach agreement on the issues or face possible sanctions, but the council deferred action until at least Wednesday.

The disputes, particularly over oil revenue, have led to severe economic problems in both Sudan and South Sudan. But the South, which celebrated its first year as an independent nation last month, is in a more precarious situation as it is more heavily dependent on outside assistance.

Clinton urged the two sides to reach an interim agreement on oil revenue.

"A percentage of something is better than a percentage of nothing," she said at a news conference with Nhial Deng Nhial, South Sudan's foreign minister.

Clinton also said an agreement could give South Sudan time to look at the feasibility of building another pipeline that would bypass Sudan.

The mostly black African tribes of South Sudan and the mainly Arab north battled two civil wars over more than five decades, and some 2 million died in the latest war, from 1983-2005. It ended with the 2005 peace pact that led to last year's independence declaration for South Sudan.

Though the breakup was peaceful, hostilities flared earlier this year.

South Sudan inherited about three-quarters of the region's oil, but shut down its oil industry in January after accusing Sudan of stealing oil that the South must pump through Sudan's pipelines. That decision has cost both governments dearly in lost revenue.

Five years into a housing crisis that never seems to end, a dispute over offering homeowners assistance has come down to morality.

Edward DeMarco, the acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, will not permit targeted debt relief for underwater homeowners ? also known as principal reduction ? because he said doing so would threaten the covenant between borrowers and lenders, and encourage those making their payments on time to default and cash in.

In taking this stand, DeMarco, responsible for overseeing oversees mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, puts himself in an increasingly lonely position. The Obama administration, along with housing activists and many economists, said the ?moral hazard? of debt relief is more dangerous to the economy than the foreclosures and suffering that will happen if nothing is done. The fear that writing down loan values for one set of borrowers encourages others to quit paying their mortgages is overblown, they said, and the argument about morality is way out of date.

?There is no evidence that people would rush to strategically default,? said Brent White, a law professor at the University of Arizona who has written extensively about housing policy. ?If homeowners needed an incentive to default they would be doing so already.?

The FHFA estimates that principal reduction could benefit taxpayers to the tune of up to $500 million, though the benefit could be much less. The Department of the Treasury?s estimate is higher, possibly up to $1 billion.

For many of the 11 million borrowers who owe more on their mortgage than their home is worth, the economically logical next step would be to walk away, White argues. Some have, but most are unwilling or afraid to break their contract ? even if it means unloading tens of thousands of dollars in bad debt, he said. So why would they default to obtain a smaller and much more uncertain, measure of relief?

Thressa Walker is one homeowner who probably would be better off walking away from her San Jose, Calif., townhouse, and her deeply underwater home loan.

She owes $538,000 now on a home worth $256,000. She received an interest rate reduction through the Home Affordable Modification Program, or HAMP, but because her first mortgage is owned by Fannie, she did not qualify for principal reduction. When she inquired about principal reduction for her smaller second mortgage, she was told she would need to stop making payments, she said.

But Walker doesn?t want to abandon her home, and she also doesn?t want to intentionally default, for fear that she will lose her only credit card and damage her credit, she said. Even if she did, DeMarco?s decision ensures that she will remain on the hook for most of the negative equity in her home loan.

?I am stuck,? she said.

If anything, DeMarco?s decision increases the odds that she will walk away ? sticking Fannie Mae ? and by extension taxpayers that bailed out the mortgage giant ? with a home worth half of what was loaned out.

Up to 500,000 homeowners could qualify for principal reduction through HAMP if Fannie and Freddie got on board, according to government estimates.

Luigi Zingales, a University of Chicago economist, said he agrees that offering targeted principal reduction to some underwater borrowers would probably not trigger a tidal wave of intentional defaults. Most homeowners aren?t that savvy or cynical, he said.

But, he said, it is also a little late in the game to be arguing moral hazard now. The Obama administration?s response to the housing catastrophe ? including programs that DeMarco supports, such as interest rate reductions and forbearance plans ? has created a moral hazard, he said.

?Every sort of intervention can create legal uncertainty and moral hazard,? he said.

If the phrase moral hazard sounds familiar, it is because Bush administration officials, including then Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, used the phrase frequently in 2008 to explain why they failed to throw a lifeline to Lehman Brothers, the investment bank that gorged on subprime mortgages, then melted down.

When that decision threatened to ruin the economy, Bush officials quickly pushed a massive $700 billion bailout through Congress. Since then, banks have received hundreds of billions in taxpayer support. Homeowner aid, however, through a collection of Treasury initiatives, has totaled just $4.5 billion of the $50 billion set aside by Congress ? and much of that was used for incentives to encourage banks to modify loans.
Moral hazard didn?t stop Congress from rescuing banks, but it is enough for DeMarco.

?I?m a free market guy, but there is a clear difference in treatment between the banks and homeowners,? Zingales said. ?It seems as though they remember moral hazard in one case and not in the other.?

U.S. pipeline agency probes Enbridge oil spill in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. pipeline safety agency launched an investigation on Saturday into an oil spill in Wisconsin on Enbridge Inc's network that forced the partial shutdown of a main artery carrying light sweet Canadian crude to Chicago-area refineries.

Enbridge's 318,000 barrel per day Line 14 pipeline, part of the Lakehead system, was shut after an estimated 1,200 barrels of oil were leaked. This happened almost two years to the day after another major spill in a different section of the line, in Michigan.

Enbridge Energy Partners said on Friday there was not yet a time frame for when flows would resume, and the cause of the spill had not yet been determined.

"(The U.S. Transportation Department's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) is investigating the cause of the Enbridge crude oil pipeline failure in Wisconsin," spokesman Damon Hill said in an email on Saturday, adding that an inspector had been sent to the location of the pipeline failure.

Line 14 is one of four lines that ship mainly Canadian crude via Lakehead, a 2.5 million bpd network that is the principal route for Canadian exports.

The news will not help Enbridge build public trust in its network, which has come under scrutiny following several high-profile incidents, including a spill in Alberta last month and the massive leak in Michigan two years ago.

Just weeks ago, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board delivered a scathing report of Enbridge's handling of the July 2010 rupture of its Line 6B near Marshall, Michigan, which led to more than 20,000 barrels of crude leaking into the Kalamazoo River.

The NTSB said it found a complete breakdown of company safety measures, and that Enbridge employees performed like "Keystone Kops" trying to contain it. The rupture went undetected for 17 hours.

U.S. pipeline regulators fined it $3.7 million for the spill, their largest ever penalty.

The incidents have caused furor just as the company seeks approval for its C$6 billion Northern Gateway pipeline to Canada's West Coast from Alberta amid staunch opposition from environmental groups and native communities that warn against oil spills on land and in coastal waters.

Enbridge said Line 14 was a 24-inch diameter pipe that was installed in 1998, making it a relatively new line.

In most cases, smaller pipeline leaks can be repaired quickly allowing operations to resume pumping, although regulators may require significant work if they find any cause for alarm. Following the leak two years ago, the line was shut for over two months.

No injury was reported on Friday at the line, which is near Grand Marsh, Wisconsin, Enbridge said.
